Year of the Dragon Writing Contest entry for December. 300 words. For AT.


ONE
She graduated from West High School in Madison, Wisconsin, moved to Chicago, and quickly became Midwest distribution manager for the Sony Entertainment Group.

ONE
Drawn from Madison to New York City, she ended up a reference librarian at Columbia University. She reads both science fiction and fantasy voraciously, and recently entered the inaugural Harry Potter International Trivia Contest.

ONE
She moved from Madison to Menomonie, Wisconsin where she wrote a Newbery Award winning novel about a little girl who plays jazz flute at lunchtime in the cafeteria of the local YWCA. Although she herself studied piano growing up, her focus was classical music. When she is not writing or playing her own classical compositions, she donates her time to the local Meals on Wheels organization.

ONE
Originally from Madison, she earned her B.S. in Physics at UW--Madison, and then her M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. She wrote her dissertation on the design and implementation of Sodium Pump Laser technologies, especially for applications in missile and satellite interception. Both nationally and internationally, she competes in dressage and recently placed third in Great Britain. In addition, she practices kendo and qi gong, and has achieved level six in the latter.

ONE
After graduating from West High School in Madison, she attended Middlebury College in Vermont where she studied four languages and became a field agent for the CIA. When she abruptly retired from government service, she turned her attention to raising a family in Hawaii. Both her son and daughter are multi-lingual and attend Yale and West Point respectively. Her husband is a professor of food science and human nutrition at UH Manoa and plays with a Hawaiian music trio in local nightclubs. She says that she and her husband are trying to master tandem surfing.
