Love: No Choice but To Follow

A haiku exercise. 206 words.

distracting desire
love's a dream passing at night
lingering perfume

lingering perfume
hints of love's reality
even in our dreams

even in our dreams
that perfect time of true love
lasting an instant

lasting an instant
fleeting love that might have been
never seen again

never seen again
a love so pure it blinds us
maybe once in life

maybe once in life
maybe that one love in life
maybe missed by chance

maybe missed by chance
that powerful love so chaste
it can hardly be

it can hardly be
love's knot a sacred promise
lasting forever

lasting forever
our love that always holds strong
strengthened through kind time

strengthened through kind time
by all things that hamper love
a journey for love

a journey for love
old age cannot ever lose
love that stands so strong

love that stands so strong
a barricade against loss
marking time with joy

marking time with joy
anniversaries of love
fresh celebrations

fresh celebrations
earned through holding onto love
each and every year

each and every year
great love will stay new and warm
mellowing the time

mellowing the time
love's experience runs deep
once can be enough

once can be enough
but many chances may come
distracting desire
