A Halloween Past

When a piece of candy is not JUST a piece of candy...

I was third grade at Kapalama Elementary School.
My favorite teacher gave us each one packaged chocolate Halloween marshmallow candy.
Was self control not to eat it right away.
Even more unusual for one eight year old with candy.
That evening we got ready to go trick-or-treat.
I put the chocolate marshmallow candy in my trick-or-treat bag.
Was dark when two kids came running past.
My bag snatched by one of them.
Their bare feet fading fast.
Had they turned around they would have seen my face,
melting in tears...for that one chocolate marshmallow candy.
