Chromatophoric Christmas Lights

A living equivalent of undersea Christmas lights is the slimy cephalopod we know as the giant Pacific octopus. It's color changing skin cells create a veritable light show of twinkling greens, blues, silvers, and golds. A cunning octopus commands a camouflage of dots and yellows to blend in with the surrounding sand, an excited one burns a scarlet red, a freshly caught one strobes through its palette of colors as the fisherman turns its delicate innards inside out, and a plated one screams silently as human teeth finds its brain, belatedly spilling its sea-cloud escape of blue-black ink.
