Aunty Thelma's Banana Bread

Published by HOMELESSINHONOLULU | Wednesday, November 15, 2017 7:11 PM

This 100 word poem is dedicated to my Big Island family.

There were days when aunty
was in a good mood. On those days
she would cook a huge breakfast:
Portuguese sausage, bacon, eggs,
hash browns, fruits.

Her specialty was banana bread
she served warm out of the oven
with a thin layer of butter.

On her bad days she would be
swearing up a storm.

"I told Junior Boy fo wash those
goddamn dishes and these are
the same fucking pots and pans
from breakfast. I going whoop his
ass when he pau school."

On those days she ordered pizza
and gave us frozen banana bread
out of the freezer.
