A Companion : the translation

Published by PIIHONUA | Wednesday, March 07, 2018 11:36 AM

This is a literary translation from Hawaiian to English of my submission for last month.

A Companion

This companion,
is a long-distance bird,
a bird of long journeys,
a bird of many changing colors and many clothes.

His small body is simply carried off
by fierce onshore winds.

Persistently thrashed
till rain-soaked
to the bone,
is this fragile bird.

In blustery winds, full of anger,
the forces mean nothing to him.

Indelibly etched in his memory,
is the correct flight path.
Till he lands in my back yard.

Indelibly etched in his memory
are his favorite spots,
where he gorges
on plump, juicy worms,
filling him to the gills.
Mmmm, so onolicious !
