I'm currently pursuing an MA in English. I believe people who write capture something of the nature of individuals and the processes we all go through. The language we use to write enables us to locate ourselves in the larger contexts that influence the individuals we are in the process of becoming. This idea is central to my thesis. It is also why I have a passion for writing and hope to continue to do so academically and creatively.

BR 100 Word Contest- October

Knock, knock, Bang!

Relentless, persistent. Three times daily, sometimes more.
Requesting things: drink invitations, company.
My patience wanes.

“homely creature”— Yet, who am I to judge? Surely this means something.

Gazes interlocking, I turn – hiding.
Her Circus style makeup, Electric pink floppy hat, Frumpy faded yellow smock,
Wounded rabbit look, Mad Hatter eyes: I “see” her, she sees me.

Knock, knock, Bang.

Always at my door, even when I turn away. Realization strikes. I am her, she is me, we are It. All along, I’ve been missing it. Can’t be escaped, rejected. Her presence lingers so I’ll understand.

Knock, knock…knock.
