ImageNovel Attempts

This will chronicle my attempts at writing a novel. (Pay no mind to the dates, I did not attempt write seriously or publish any work for a number of years.)

NaNoWriMo, Day 30: The End... for Now...

It was midnight on November 30th and I had only 31,746 words written down. I had failed.

For some perspective, 31,746 words fit quite nicely on 100 pages. I'm not sure how many pages 50,000 words fill up; I'll tell you when I get there. = ^_^ =

I took the weekend off to decompress and to figure out what to do. Oh, I do plan on continuing this nascent novel, but at a reduced rate.

For one thing, I'm designating one day in the week where I research all the things that have come up in my writing.

I'm also going to spend a day or so reviewing. I've hit a major stumbling block--one of the pillars of my plot may in fact be my creative memory rather than factual recollection (hence the aforementioned research).

It has been an experience. I plan on doing this again in 2008. I know it won't quite be the same--I'll be prepared with character sketches, bio, and descrip, and a plot outline--the experience will be better.

One thing that has changed is that I'm not thinking of myself as an editor now. I'm back to identifying myself as a writer (well... when I'm not working anyway).

God help the next person that tries to tell me about the novel he or she is planning to write... when he or she has the time in the future--I'll challenge them to NaNoWriMo.

Well, as of next blog, I'll be back to reporting BR lit events.
