I know. There's been books, a play, a couple of films, an opera (?) so what's up with the latest renshi (linked poetry) book, What We Must Remember?

There's a thin line between the real and the imagined and the four renshi poets (Christy Passion, Ann Inoshita, Juliet S. Kono, and Jean Yamasaki Toyama) pondered it over the course of 10 months or so. They did their homework, then let the muse take over. If you want to see the progression as it actually happened, click on the Renshi Poetry tab above and select Revisiting the Massie Affair. Start at the August 2011/1931 entry.

Then they revisited "Revisiting the Massie Affair" a couple of years later to reconstruct their thought and writing processes so that readers could have an inside look at the agony, frustration, stress, and joy that the writer before them gave them in the form of the previous last line. Hey, and after all that, they're still friends. Amazing. They even revisited the title. Thankfully it became What We Must Remember

The poets will read a portion of the book (you really get how renshi works when you hear them read aloud) and talk about how they dealt with the writing task each month. And UH history dept prof John Rosa, author of Local Story: the Massie Kahahawai Case and the culture of history will consider how creative writing and history has intersected in this project.

Fascinating stuff. Don't miss it. Books will be available at a good price.
