The Gardener

Today’s word is

desire

Use it in some kind of writing, then post it on the Bamboo Shoots page. We would love to read what you write.

Here’s my draft for Tuesday / Po?alua 09.03.19.

The Gardener

The planted seeds will grow,
well-tended, but a garden kept in its glory
is really only the incompetence of old-age restrained,
seniority held at bay, nature continuing to creep,
aroused golden-strong and finally resistless,
chewing its small portions of take-back,
savored as appetizers in the grand feast,
corroding the watering cans that rust and leak,
tools that blunt and break, gloves that fray and shred,
the cooling down of mortal blood in a closing battle,
nature cunningly attacking my balance,
I, testing gravity, float feebly, fearing my fall,
nature’s hand-rubbing glimmer entrance,
its soon-to-be answered mote of hope, I go
with the loss of sunlight on a late flight,
stumble away from the steady onslaught,
vanity of vanities, my desire for neat hedges,
lust for cropped trees, coveted blade-perfect cut grass,
all the days of my life.
