Art Talk Tuesday at The Hub

Bamboo Ridge presentation: WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER, an evening for remembrance of Hawaii’s history, in particular the reverberations of the Massie-Kahahawai case, and Hawai‘i and its people through the work of writers who have published with Bamboo Ridge Press.



Participants:

Christy Passion is a critical care nurse at the Queen's Medical Center. She is the author of STILLl OUT OF PLACE, an individual collection of poetry and the co-author of two collaborative collections, NO CHOICE BUT TO FOLLOW and WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER. She is the 2017 recipient of the Cades Emerging Writer Award.

Ann Inoshita has a book of poems, MANOA STREAM (Kahuaomanoa Press), and she co-authored NO CHOICE BUT TO FOLLOW and WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER (Bamboo Ridge Press). Her short play, WEA I STAY: A PLAY IN HAWAI‘I, was included in THE STATEHOOD PROJECT performed by Kumu Kahua Theatre and published by Fat Ulu Productions. She teaches at Leeward Community College.

Jean Yamasaki Toyama, professor emerita of French at the University of Hawai‘i, has published two books of poems, KELLI’S HANAUMA FRIENDS and another, PREPOSITIONS. Her short stories appear in THE PIANO TUNER’S WIFE. She is one of the poets writing in WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER.

Donald Ching, author of BETWEEN SKY AND SEA: A FAMILY'S STRUGG.E, most recently edited BAMBOO RIDGE #110 with Misty-LYNN Sanico. He is an active member of the Bamboo Ridge team.

Wing Tek Lum is a Honolulu businessman and poet. Bamboo Ridge Press has published his two collections of poetry, EXPOUNDING THE DOUBTFUL POINTS (1987) and THE NANJING MASSACRE: POEMS (2012).

Elmer Omar Pizo, former health inspector for the state of Hawai‘i, has published widely here, on the mainland and in the Philippines. He has participated in many writers’ workshops including, the Vermont Studio Center and the Silliman National Writers Workshop. His poem, “Warning” was Editors' Choice for Best Poetry Category in BAMBOO RIDGE Issue #100.
